Blogtober

So I know the name is corny, but maybe it will inspire you to start blogging in October.
Check out the following website to read more about  Blogging in the 21st-Century Classroom.   "Writing in public, whether it's in the form of blogs or microblogs, like a Twitter stream, is forcing us to be clearer, more convincing and smarter". (http://www.npr.org/blogs/alltechconsidered/2013/09/17/223357881/how-blogging-and-twitter-are-making-us-smarter):Blogging is also one of the many ways that we can connect our students to others outside of Algonquin.  Cam Martin is taking advantage of some of those global connections I made earlier in the year by starting a collaborative blogging project with his Computer Essentials students and students in Taiwan.  Let me know if you want help starting a blog.

In other tech news...

George Hancin is using Pinterest with his art students to create an online scrap book of artists and influences.  Special thanks to Danielle Deciero for the Pinterest tutorial.  She has been using Pinterest in her classes for a couple of years.  The following website gives 30 ways that teachers can use Pinterest: http://www.educatorstechnology.com/2013/05/30-ways-teachers-can-use-pinterest.html.

Way to go Brandon Puzzo for trying the Ipad app Explain Everything with his junior history students. I can't wait to see the finished Revolutions projects.  I have added a folder of links to Explain Everything Tutorials  and examples of how it is being used in a high school classroom to my website.  Let me know how I can help.

The picture above is a page from a children's book that one of Steve Godbout's Psychology students made using Book Creator.  Steve has been doing this project for a while but this was the first year he gave kids the option of using the ipads.  They did a great job!  Here is a link to a website that talks about how Book Creator lets students take ownership of the learning experience

Hope some of the ARHS tech news that I have shared above will inspire you to try and use technology to support your curriculum!!
