All about that Teaching and Learning

Wanted to share a few technology "goings-on" here at Algonquin, as well as introduce you to some new technology tips.
As you wrap up the first semester remember it is never too late to try a new approach or take your lessons to a new level.
The word splash above was created using Worlde, which is a free and easy to use online tool to help with a variety of classroom activities.  For example you could use it to summarize survey results, help with class discussions...the possibilities are endless.  Give it a try!
In the picture above students are using different devices to access Kahoot , which is a great tool to use for formative assessments.  Kevin Hausmann told me how much his students loved Kahoot as a way to review for their Biotech midterm. The following quote is from website where you can find  more info about the use of Kahoot in the classroom"The great fun of Kahoot is that it is competition based - questions are timed and students receive more points for correctly answering the question faster than their opponents. No joke, this is one that students will ask you to play - and play again!

Cam Martin recently created a Google form to use as a peer assessment tool.  As each student was giving a presentation in the front of the class all the other students were using ipads and the google form to provide feedback to the presenter. There are many other "back channeling" tools you could use in the classroom with your students.  Steve Godbout and Felicia Rutigliano have found Todaysmeet to be very helpful and I am sure they would be happy to share their experiences with anyone interested.
Skitch is great Ipad app that allows you to mark up any document or image.  Use it in math class to draw and label geometric shapes, use it in a social studies or language class to label a map...once again the possibilities are endless.

Feel free to leave a comment about other forms of technology that are helping you engage your students and redefine your lessons.

And last but not least a shout out to all Algonquin teachers!  I feel lucky to work with such an amazing faculty.
